Build Inn was first established in East London in the Eastern Cape by Cyril van Seumeren as a supplier of various building products and in May 1984,  after seeing the success of Build Inn East London, his close friend Gerry Gericke decided to leave the piling industry and start up Build Inn Pretoria, focusing on supplying and installing quality garage doors to the housing and building market. Gerry grew the company to be one of the largest suppliers of garage doors in the Pretoria area.
In 1990, Build Inn expanded into the industrial door market, and began supplying and installing industrial roller shutters for factories, warehouses and shop-front applications. Through this expansion, with their Roller Shutter supplier, Rol-a-Dor being purchased by Xpanda Security, Build Inn became associated with Xpanda, leading to becoming a fully fledged supplier of their security doors, gates and burglar proofing and is now one of Xpanda Security’s largest clients.
Thirteen years later, in February 1997, Gerry decided to hand the reigns over to two of his sons, Stephen Gericke and Ashley Gericke. Today the company (now the longest running garage door company in Pretoria) is still being managed by Stephen and employs nineteen people. Gerry is now the Xpanda Security dealer in East London.
